Preserving charter school funding
Showcasing the stories of students, parents and teachers

The problem
Public charter schools serve 143,000 students across Pennsylvania, but they remain under attack by interest groups, elected officials and public school officials. In the 2020 proposed budget, the governor even tried to cut charter school funding.

The solution
Enter 143K Rising, a community we created to fight back against the proposed cuts. We grew the community through our partners and digital advertising, and then amplified their powerful, individual stories about why charter schools were right for their families. By mobilizing students and families in support of charter schools, we empowered thousands of people to make their voices heard.

The results
We successfully prevented the proposed funding cuts by building a community of advocates from scratch, training community members to advocate on behalf of charter schools. More than 1,000 parents commented on proposed charter school regulations, giving lawmakers a lesson in how to win policy fights.
