Delaware Healthcare Association
Storytelling that made a whole state smile
Lawmakers quietly introduced a bill that would grant a political board full financial control of Delaware’s hospitals. To block the bill, we quickly told a story of what the bill meant: “Life’s too short for politician-controlled healthcare.”
The Challenge
Stop a bill fast by rallying an entire state.
The bill appeared overnight. Drafted with zero input from hospitals and with broad legislative support, it would give full financial control of Delaware’s hospitals to a political board. Jobs, funding, and the public’s access to healthcare were all in jeopardy.
Just a week after Delaware Healthcare Association called us, we completed a statewide survey, developed a campaign strategy and winning messages, and launched an advertising campaign telling a powerful story with the tagline, “Life’s too short for politician-controlled healthcare.”
Through our Advocacy + Brand approach, DHA owned the conversation from day one. In fact, the media adopted our messaging word-for-word. Thousands of advocates across the state deluged lawmakers with emails opposing the bill. Legislators grudgingly relented, removing nearly all harmful provisions while fully establishing DHA’s seat at the table.
Politician-controlled healthcare became a catchphrase
