American Cancer Society

For nearly 20 years, we’ve helped the ACS protect public health. Bravo has led initiatives to raise Pennsylvania’s tobacco tax rate and expand taxable products to include vapes and other non-combustibles. Thanks to our sustained efforts, PA now has one of the nation’s highest tobacco tax rates.

Amgen

Many cancers and autoimmune diseases are treated with expensive biologic medications. Biosimilars are similar, low-cost versions of biologics—but were unapproved for Pennsylvania patients. Bravo developed and executed the legislative strategy that changed the law, increasing biosimilar availability and bringing treatment within reach for more people.

American Diabetes Association

The law was clear: only school nurses were approved to help diabetic students with their insulin. But many schools don’t have nurses onsite full time, putting kids at risk. Bravo successfully changed the law so trained school personnel other than a school nurse can administer insulin, dramatically reducing the danger level for diabetic students across the Commonwealth.

American Heart Association

Every second matters when student athletes are in cardiac distress. That’s why easy access to defibrillators during school sporting events is critical. Bravo met with key legislators and successfully lobbied the General Assembly to enact a new law expanding access to defibrillators. Refining the bill’s language was key to securing the win.

Citizens Against Nuclear Bailout

This was a fully integrated effort across our research, strategic communications, and government affairs teams, with Bravo’s GR folks coordinating the ground effort that informed the entire communications strategy. They also educated legislators on market dynamics to ensure that, unlike neighboring states, PA residents wouldn’t fund ratepayer subsidies for profitable nuclear power companies.

Comcast Spectacor/Philadelphia Flyers

Providing a new way for sports teams to give back to their community, Bravo’s policy experts championed the effort to change the law to allow 50/50 raffles at professional sporting events. Focusing on the fan experience, our team got the law passed. The raffles were such a success that we were soon asked to help expand the law to include the NCAA as well—which, naturally, we did.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

PA legislators proposed increasing the tax base by raising the rental car tax rate. Enterprise, Pennsylvania’s largest vehicle rental company, called Bravo. Our team successfully argued that 80% of Enterprise’s PA vehicle renters are in-state customers, not tourists, so a tax hike would hit hard at home. The proposal was rejected, and the tax rate remained unchanged.

The Hershey Company

When a significant increase in Pennsylvania’s candy tax rate was proposed, Hershey asked us to step in. We showed that, in PA, our confection businesses are synonymous with the state’s image and that the increase would put many companies at a disadvantage. Thanks to our effective strategy, the proposal was rejected.

PA Humane Society/ASPCA

Nobody wants to live in “the puppy mill state.” But that was Pennsylvania before the PA Humane Society and ASPCA enlisted Bravo. We helped pass a bill, which we branded “The Puppy Law,” to ensure dog breeders provide humane conditions for all their pups. Our strategic, multifaceted campaign faced stiff opposition from breeders, but we made sure the law was changed—our cuddliest victory ever.

Marsy’s Law for All

Marsy’s Law has passed in more than a dozen states to protect crime victims’ rights. When supporters turned their attention to Pennsylvania to pass the constitutional amendment, Bravo was asked to make it happen. That required passing the bill in two consecutive legislative sessions—a tall order. We made it happen in just six months. 74% of Pennsylvania voters eventually approved the ballot measure.

Geisinger

We helped Geisinger secure legislative funding for its virtual nurse training program. By letting younger nurses easily access the honed skills and experience of more seasoned nurses, we helped Geisinger shrink the learning curve for the healthcare providers of tomorrow.
